The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has asked doctors in the country to light candles in protest against incidents of attacks on medical staff who are battling Covid-19. There have been many instances where people have attacked or discriminated against medical staff, fearing that they have already contracted the virus. This despite a strict warning from the government against such discrimination. Therefore, the IMA is now demanding a special law that protects doctors during the Covid-19 pandemic. The IMA has also declared that it is issuing a "White Alert" today and will observe a "black day" tomorrow.
