In a major diplomatic victory for India, Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar was on May 1 listed as a "designated" global terrorist by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) 1267 Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee.
China, which had blocked moves to blacklist Masood Azhar four times, finally dropped its objections. China said it took the decision after it found no objection to the listing proposal by the US, the UK and France following a careful study of the revised materials.
Masood Azhar is the chief of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed, which was behind the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 soldiers were killed in February. Days later, India sent fighter jets to Pakistan's Balakot to bomb a Jaish terror training camp.
