Gujarat recorded 1,152 new Covid-19 positive cases, taking the total to 74,390. It’s the highest daily tally for the state in August and the second consecutive day of 1,100-plus cases.
The new cases include 272 from Surat, 159 from Ahmedabad, 120 from Vadodara and 95 from Rajkot. With the update, the cumulative cases for the four districts have reached 15,969, 28,351, 5,951 and 2,884 respectively.
The state also recorded deaths of 18 patients, taking the total to 2,715. The deaths include six from Rajkot, five from Surat, four from Ahmedabad, two from Vadodara and one from Tapi. With the update, the state’s death toll crossed 2,700 – fifth state to reach the landmark. Maharashtra (18,306), Tamil Nadu (5,278), Delhi (4,153) and Karnataka (3,511) have higher deaths of Covid-19 patients than Gujarat.
A total of 977 patients got discharged in 24 hours, taking the total to 57,393. The discharges include 222 from Ahmedabad, 194 from Surat, 95 from Rajkot, and 79 from Vadodara.
With the update, the number of positive patients in the state is now at 14,282, which is 19.2% of the total cases registered so far. The share of active and deceased patients in total tally is 77.2% and 3.6% respectively.
Gujarat carried out 50,124 tests - the highest so far - to find new Covid-19 positive cases, taking the total to 11.09 lakh. The state health department claimed that 771 tests per day per million are conducted in Gujarat.
As on Wednesday evening, Gujarat had 4.94 lakh persons under quarantine, out of which 4.92 lakh are under home quarantine according to the health department bulletin.
