Shri Uday Mahurkar, Founder of the Save Culture Save Bharat Foundation, has initiated legal proceddings against NETFLIX, ALTT and X (formerly Twitter) for producing and broadcasting sexually explicit content. At a press conference held at the Press Club of India, Mahurkar, along with Shri Sanjeev Newar, Founder of Gems of Bollywood and Shri Vineet Jindal, a Supreme Court lawyer, discussed the growing threat posed by such material.

Shri Mahurkar stated "The Delhi Police refused to file an FIR based on my complaint against Netflix, ALTT and X for disseminating explicit material of an appalling nature. This stands in contrast to the Mumbai Police, which filed an FIR against Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor for producing content violating the POCSO Act. The complaint names Jitendra Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Ekta R. Kapoor as they are promoters of ALTT."

He emphasized the need for judicial intervention, saying, "Despite clear evidence, the Delhi Police’s refusal to act has forced me to turn to the courts."

Mahurkar criticized the platforms, stating that sexually explicit and harmful content is openly accessible across these platforms. On X, there are videos featuring hardcore pornography, nudity, sexual activity involving transgender persons, and even bestiality. ALTT’s content includes graphic scenes of incest and abuse, which degrade the portrayal of women. NETFLIX, too, has been called out for streaming pornographic scenes that violate Indian laws. Mahurkar stated, “The spread of such content is not just a moral issue; it is inciting sexual violence and disrupting the social fabric of our nation and is one of the main underlying causes for the increase in rapes in India.”

He further elaborated that sexually perverted content and pornography have emerged as major causes of horrendous rape cases in the country, including shocking incidents of minors committing rape after viewing porn on their phones. He added that some cases are too disturbing to believe. In the last three months alone, there have been seven reported cases of brothers raping their sisters, two cases of fathers raping their daughters, and one unbelievable case of a man raping his own mother—all allegedly triggered by exposure to pornographic content.

The Save Culture Save Bharat Foundation has conducted extensive research on how pornography incites sexual violence. Shri Mahurkar stated that the Foundation has collected eight studies that conclusively prove pornography is a primary instigator of rape. There are numerous examples to support this claim, with the recent cases included in the attached reports.

Foundation’s Legal and Moral Stand

The complaints filed by the Shri Uday Mahurkar argue that these platforms violate several Indian laws, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 and and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Addressing the media, Advocate Vineet Jindal remarked, “The availability of such content on public platforms directly influences crimes such as rape, molestation, and sexual offenses against children. This material pollutes the minds of both the young and the old, creating a toxic culture that glorifies violence and distorts human behavior. Left unchecked, this content fosters an environment where harmful sexual practices are normalized, undermining the social fabric of our nation. Immediate legal intervention is necessary to prevent this epidemic from spreading further.”

He further stated, “Our laws were enacted to protect societal values, prevent sexual exploitation, and ensure the dignity of women and children. However, platforms like NETFLIX, ALTT and X (formerly Twitter) have willfully ignored these legal safeguards. The uncontrolled spread of such content is not only a gross violation of these laws but also jeopardizes India’s goal of becoming a great nation by 2047. The judiciary must intervene to hold these platforms accountable, ensuring strict legal action to restore public trust and protect the cultural ethos of our nation.”

Public Hearing and Demand for Legal Reform

Mahurkar highlighted that the Foundation organized a Jan Sunwae (public hearing) in September 2024, where over 100 survivors and family members of sexual violence demanded the removal of sexually explicit content from all platforms. He shared that more than 200 women testified, attributing their abuse to offenders who had consumed explicit material on these platforms.

Shri Sanjeev Newar added, “We are witnessing an erosion of cultural values disguised as entertainment. The glorification of sexually explicit scenes is harmful not only to individuals but also to society at large. There is an urgent need to create a safer environment, particularly for children, who are being exposed to such content under the pretense of education or entertainment.”

He said Bollywood too is a promoter of the local porn industry in the country. Our attached reports include links with dates and timelines, showing how these platforms—now widely accessed by children—are openly promoting vulgar content. This content not only corrupts the youth but also encourages them to consume it regularly. Neuroscience research is clear that such content is permanently destroying the functioning of brains. The government must take immediate action against all platforms involved in the production and display of such material to prevent further damage to society.

Adding further, Mahurkar warned, “If this trend continues unchecked, it will hinder India’s ambition to become a great nation by 2047. What many see as just entertainment is, in fact, a severe obstacle to Bharat’s progress.”

Call for a Complete Ban and Stricter Laws

The Save Culture Save Bharat Foundation demands a complete ban on all platforms producing or distributing explicit content. It has called for the introduction of strict laws to regulate the themes, language, and scenes in audio-visual productions. Mahurkar insisted that the government impose harsh penalties for violators, recommending 10 to 20 years of imprisonment and denial of bail for at least three years. He added, “The damage caused by explicit content is far worse than the harm done by any foreign invader. We must penalize those profiting from it or risk losing our cultural identity.

Jindal echoed this sentiment, stating, “We need laws that deter not just producers but also distributors of such material. A zero-tolerance policy is the only way forward if we are to build a safer and more respectful society.”
