Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday announced total lockdown in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai corporations from 6am on April 26 till 9pm on April 29. In Salem and Tirupur corporations, the total lockdown will be in effect between 6am on April 26 and 9pm on April 28. Only certain essential services would be allowed, the chief minister said in a statement.

Wholesale vegetable markets like Koyambedu will be allowed to function with necessary guidelines. Similarly, mobile vegetable and fruit shops will be allowed. But no other shop will be allowed to open. Medical services like hospitals, laboratories in hospitals, pharmacies, ambulances and funeral vehicle services will be allowed to function.
