The Class XI student of Ryan International School, Bhondsi, accused of killing seven-year-old Pradhyumn Thakur, a Class 2 student of the same school, will be tried as an adult for the murder in a rare invocation of a provision in law brought in following the outrage over Nirbhaya’s gangrape and murder.
The amended law, which came into force on January 15, 2016, allows minors aged between 16 and 18 to be treated as adults if the nature of the crime committed by them is serious enough.
