China and Vietnam have said in a joint communique that they will manage and properly control their maritime disputes to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea. The countries further said that they will use an existing border talks mechanism to reach a resolution. Notably, both China and Vietnam claim parts of the potentially energy-rich South China Sea.
