Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian has expressed his desire not to continue in his post, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said today. Subramanian resigned citing personal reasons, Jaitley said, adding, "He left me with no option but to agree with him." Subramanian was appointed as the government's top economic adviser in October 2014, just months after the PM Narendra Modi-led government came to power at the Centre. He was on an extended term after completing his initial tenure in October last year.
Subramanian will head back to the United States of America, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a Facebook post titled 'Thank You Arvind'. Jaitley, who is currently recuperating from a kidney ailment, said he spoke to Subramanian over a video call.
