The cus tomer will have to pay five lakh rupees compensation for the major loss and will be imprisoned for seven years. If the consumer dies, then compensation of one million and seven years or life imprisonment is also possible. The e-commerce companies will also come under the ambit of the new law. Under the Consumer Protection Act (Consumer Protection Act-2019), now the customer can complain in any consumer court, till now the complaint could have been made from where the goods were purchased. The new law will replace the 1986 Consumer Law.

Celebrities were also fined up to 10 lakhs for misleading advertisements. It will be the responsibility of the celebrity to investigate the claim made in the advertisement. There is a provision for fines and compensation on companies for adulterated goods and bad products. If you make a false complaint, then you will be fined 50 thousand rupees.
