At least 33 persons died after a bus carrying around 34 persons fell into a valley in Ambenali Ghat in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Saturday afternoon. Confirming the death toll, District Collector Vijay Suryawanshi said, “33 of 34 passengers in a bus killed after it fell into a gorge near Poladpur in Raigad district today.” As per police, 34 staff members of Dapoli Agricultural University had left for a picnic to Mahabaleshwar on Saturday morning and had crossed hardly 15 kilometres on the Mahabaleshwar – Poladpur road when the bus skidded off the road near Ambenali ghat and fell into a deep gorge. The incident came to light after one of the staffers called some people he knew after getting out of the bus alive. Police officials said that the valley is 300 feet deep.
