The winter session of the parliament has concluded today as both the upper and lower house have been adjourned sine die amid disruptions by the oppositions.

The Winter session had started on November 29 and was scheduled to end on December 23. However, the session is going to be concluded a day early.
Rajya Sabha had 18 sittings and was disrupted multiple times this year with a loss of 18 hours and 48 minutes. Rajya Sabha witnessed more interruptions after the suspension of 12 opposition party members over their “unruly” conduct.

On the other hand, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the lower house witnessed record productivity of 204 percent on December 2. The opposition staged disruptions on multiple issues including inflation and the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. However, despite the disruptions, the winter session witnessed the passage of many important bills that included the Farm laws Repeal Bill, the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, and the introduction of much talked about Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill aimed at increasing the legal age for marriage of women from 18 to 21 years.

Rajya Sabha has been adjourned sine die. Chairman Venkaiah Naidu said that the performance of the House in the Winter Session had been below expectation. "It could have been better. All need to introspect what went wrong. Rules, regulations, procedures, and precedents must be taken into account," he said.
