Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday arrived at the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur district to take stock of the situation in the wake of 126 child deaths due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES).
People gathered outside the hospital and started shouted slogans like “Nitish Kumar go back”, angry over the Chief Minister choosing to visit the city only after the number of casualties had crossed the three-digit mark.
Moreover, the litchi grown in Muzaffarpur is said to contain a toxin which can cause a drop in blood sugar levels if consumed by a malnourished child. According to the latest reports, more than 290 children are still admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital.
