The Indian Army has rejected the Congress party's claim that 6 surgical strikes were carried out during its regime. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, has said the first surgical strike was carried out by armed forces in 2016 to avenge the Uri attack. Commenting on the Balakot air strikes, Singh said, "It was a major achievement."
Congress leader Rajiv Shukla had earlier told reporters at the AICC briefing that six surgical strikes were conducted during Manmohan Singh government.
