WHO chief scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan has said, "It's a big achievement for India that in the last couple of months [it] has become self-sufficient in [Covid-19] testing kits and been able to scale up." Lauding India's efforts, Dr Swaminathan noted that Indian government took "extremely serious steps" from the beginning and put in place certain measures in January itself.
