The Punjab and Haryana High Court has said while Azaan is undoubtedly an integral part of Islam, it does not necessarily have to be played through loudspeakers. Hearing a plea against Sonu Nigam, the court observed that the use of the word 'gundagardi' by the singer was not "in the context of Azaan but the use of loudspeakers and amplifiers".
