Assam crossed 1 lakh COVID-19 positive cases as the total number of people who died of novel coronavirus infection across the eight north-eastern States increased to 436. Assam’s Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said 2,560 positive cases were added to the State’s tally of COVID-19 cases by 10 pm on Friday, with the rate of positivity increasing from 5.75% to 6.38% from the previous day.
“COVID-19 claimed the lives of eight people on Friday, taking the death toll to 286. But the encouraging part is more people are recovering,” a Health Department spokesperson said on August 29. Of the total of 1,01,367 positive cases in Assam, 79,307 people have recovered so far, while 21,771 are undergoing treatment.
