Indigenously-developed vaccine for Covid-19 – ‘Covaxin’ – manufactured by Bharat Biotech on Saturday got the recommendation from an expert panel for granting permission for restricted emergency use authorisation, government sources said. This comes a day after an expert panel of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) recommended the granting of permission for restricted emergency use authorisation for ‘Covishield’ vaccine, developed by Oxford University and Swedish drugmaker AstraZeneca. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) will now take the final decision on the emergency approval of the vaccines based on the expert panel’s recommendations.
