Nine people were killed in Kerala following heavy rains that triggered landslides in Idukki and Kottayam districts. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a high-level meeting to step up rescue efforts and said all means will be used to evacuate people stranded in flooded areas due to heavy rains in the state, including Kottayam.

At the request of the state government, the military, navy and air force intervened to help the civilian administration deal with the situation. The National Disaster Response Force has decided to deploy 11 teams.
