The 6th International Buddhist Conclave to be held from August 22 to 26, by the Ministry of Tourism is set to bring greater awareness of the Buddhist sites in India, hospitality at these sites, inland travel facilities and more. After a grand inauguration in New Delhi including an address by the President of India the Buddhist trail will begin at Ajanta caves in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra.
Ajanta and Ellora is one of the destinations selected under the Iconic Destination Project of the Ministry of Tourism and plans are afoot to equip these destinations with world class facilities. Even though the footprint of Buddhist sites spread across the length and breadth of the country is large, India has been able to attract only 0.005% of global Buddhist travellers. The conclave aims to enhance the current figures which in turn can result in a windfall of opportunities for India and bring transformational changes to the local economies of places around Buddhist destinations.
